The Cadiz Motel Gets a Facelift!
On June 12, 2012, Dennis and Pam Kinsey became the new owners of the Cadiz Motel, a motel that first opened in 1957 and had seen four different owners prior to the Kinsey’s. Dennis is a self-employed contractor, so the Kinsey’s immediately put his skills to work to completely refurbish all of the twelve rooms, a task that was totally completed on May 1, 2013. Pam says, “We want people to know how everything is new! We gutted all the rooms and replaced dry wall and all the windows. Each room has a new through-the-wall heater and air-conditioning unit. All of the flooring is new with tile in the bathroom and laminate or commercial linoleum in the bedroom area. All of the furniture is new, down to the lamps and pictures on the walls. Each room has two double beds. New flat-screen TVs are mounted on the walls with cable provided as well as free wi-fi. Each room has a refrigerator and microwave. We want people to know the motel definitely has a “new” look inside the rooms, and the feedback we have received from our guests has been very positive.
The Kinsey’s purchased all new bedding and towels for the motel. The sheets are laundered and pressed by a linen service. The outside of the motel has also seen some updating with new paint, awnings and new porch furniture. Pam says, “We are trying to make the motel look and feel as homey as possible.”
The Cadiz Motel is located on 12 acres a quarter mile outside of town, so it is a quiet and relaxed setting. The property came with two houses, which the Kinsey’s have also remodeled and now are able to rent as four apartments. “My husband had a vision of being here to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry, and we have found we are able to meet that need,” says Pam. “We also have a lot of people staying with us who are traveling through or who have come to Harrison County for weddings, family reunions, or other events.”
The Kinsey’s are not done with their plans for the property. The motel is currently in the process of hooking into the Cadiz water and sewer systems, and once that is operational, Pam and Dennis expect to rent spaces for up to four campers. Future plans also include a new concrete parking lot. The Kinsey’s created a partnership called Quinny Enterprises LLC to cover their businesses. Quinny was the nickname of Dennis’s father Ralph, who as a child mispronounced “twenty” as “Quinny.” Pam and Dennis named their business in his honor and expect their business to provide the community with comfortable, clean hospitality.
The Cadiz Motel provides employment to three workers besides the Kinsey’s – one full-time and two part-time. “Our employees are excellent,” says Pam. “We couldn’t run the business without them.” The employees clean and keep the office open during the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Reservations can be made by calling 740-942-9974. Reasonable rates, either daily or weekly, are available. So stop by and see the “New” Cadiz Motel!
